The Karnak Temple describes a vast combination of ruined chapels, temples, pylons and other buildings. It is located near Luxor. This was ancient Egyptian "The Most Selected of Places", the primary place of worship of the Theban. The complex’s name comes from the nearby and partly surrounding village of Karnak.

The Temple system is a vast open air museum. It is also the largest ancient religious site in the world. It is one of the most visited historical sites in whole Egypt, probably second only to the Giza Pyramids near Giza Plateau. Even though it consists of four main precincts only one of them is open to the general public, that is the Precinct of Amun-Re. There are also several smaller sanctuaries, avenues of human and ram headed sphinxes, and temples located outside the enclosing walls of the four main parts.
