Tanta is an Egyptian town, with an estimated 450,000 inhabitants according to 2008 census. Tanta is located 94 kilometres north of Cairo and 130 kilometres southeast of Alexandria. It is a cotton-ginning centre and the main railway hub of the Nile Delta. Tanta is known for its delicacies from land, eaten during the festivals. Biggest and most common streets in Tanta are Al- Bahr Street, Al-Gala Street, Al-Nahas Street and Said Street.
Three annual festivals are held in Tanta in honour of a revered Sufi figure, Ahmad al-Badawi, of the thirteenth century, who founded the EL-Ahmadiah tariqah and was buried in the central mosque of the city.
