Nigeria’s third-largest city is located in north-central Nigeria. It was founded over 1,000 years ago by the Hausa people. Today, the population is mainly Hausa with many Fulani. The city is a major trading centre for northern Nigeria, shipping food products, leather and hides, peanuts, and textiles.
The Kurmi Market attracts many tourists with its gold, bronze, and silver work and many types of fabrics. Also of interest is the Old City with Traditional Hausa architecture, the Central Mosque, and the Emir’s Palace.
