Details / Saint Louis Region
![]() |
The Long Coast is a narrow coastal belt containing small swamp, oases, creeks, channels and mudflats. This unique Ecoregion is located along the country’s northern coast. It doffers a variety of microenvironments formed by the region’s humid maritime air and adequate moisture and a land surface characterized by both active and stabilized coastal and inland sand dunes.
Well-known for its cast iron bridge, put in by French colonialists in the nineteenth century, it is close to the Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary, home to thousands of birds, some native to the region.
This region is famous for its market gardening: more than two-thirds of the country’s vegetable production comes from this region.
