Details / Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve
The reserve that now exists on the tip of the peninsula is exposed to gale-force winds. As a result, the vegetation is limited to hardy milkwood trees and fynbos. Small antelope such as eland, bontebok, grey rhebok and grysbok occur here, as do Cape mountain zebra.
Visitors will also encounter troops of chacma baboons, which can be aggressive as a result of unlawful feeding by humans.
Along the reserve’s east coast, the tidal pools at Venus Pool, Bordjiesrif and Buffels Bay and the numerous picnic spots attract hordes of holidaymakers Buffels Bay has public facilities and a boat–launching ramp. A number of easy and scenic walking trails along the west coast include the Thomas T Tucker ship-wreck trail and the path to Sirkelsvlei; maps are available at the reserve’s entrance gate.
