Details / Lamma
Lamma is the closest of the big outlying islands to Hong Kong Island and the third biggest after Lantau and Hong Kong Island itself. This peaceful community of fishermen, farmers, and Western expatriates carries a distinct rural ambience. With villas and apartments clinging to green hills and overlooking the sea and waterfront restaurants, it almost conjures up a Mediterranean feel. There are frequent ferries to Lamma, a mere 30 minutes away.
Yung Shue Wan, at the northern end of Lamma, is one of only two small villages on the island and the ferry gateway to the island. It is home to a large number of expatriates who prefer the rustic surrounding s and cheaper rents to the noise, crowds, and expense of Hong Kong Island.
Sok Kwu Wan nuzzles the bay at the foot of a sheer hill. The colourful bay brims with pleasure craft and fishing boats dropping off their catch to fill the bubbling fish tanks outside the seafood restaurants lining the quayside. Take a seat along with the groups of gregarious diners for a seafood meal before hopping on a ferry back to Hong Kong Island.
