Details / Glass and Ceramics Museum
The extraordinary Glass and Ceramics Museum is housed in a gorgeous Qajar-era structure. Constructed as a private dwelling for a well-known Persian family, it soon after housed the Egyptian embassy and was transformed into a museum in 1976.
The house marks a shift away from entirely Persian customs, effectively blending features of both Eastern and Western styles. The stylish wooden stairway and the traditional stucco moldings on the walls and ceilings are mainly pleasant, and there are many subtle carvings and other decorations.
The museum itself is most likely the best-designed in Iran. It has hundreds of displays, mostly from Nishabur, Kashan, Rey and Gorgan, dating from the second millennium B.C. They are organized chronologically into galleries, with details of the periods in English, in addition other significant details such as the Persian glass-blowing custom. The pieces are all lovingly. The ground level shop sells an English travel guide to the museum.
