Details / Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama
![]() |
If you would like to spend some excellent time with our simian cousins or amuse impatient kids, this park might fit the bill. Just be warned: it is a steep climb up the hill to find to the monkeys. If it is a scorching day, you will be drenched by the time you get to the spot where they get together.
Although it is frequent to spot wild monkeys in the close by mountains, here you can come across them at a close distance and get pleasure from watching the mischievous creatures frolic about. It makes for an outstanding photo opportunity, not only of the monkeys but also the panoramic scenery over Kyoto.
It is the animals who are free to wander while the humans who give food to them are imprisoned in a cell. You enter the park close to the southern region of Tōgetsu-kyō, through the orange torii of Ichitani-jinja. Purchase tickets from the machine to the left of the shrine at the top of the steps.
