Details / The Golden Goose House
![]() |
The Golden Goose House, Goldene Gans, thought to be Klagenfurt's oldest house still in existence, dates back at least to 1489 and is on the west side of Alter Platz. It was intended to serve the Emperor as a pied-à-terre in exchange for the castle he ceded to the Diet for the construction of the Landhaus.
A relief with Centaur and a female figure dating back to the 16th century, as well as fine arcades, are included in the courtyard. The Golden Goose is not only a delight to look at from the outside; the inner courtyard of this historic building is stylish and offers a range of cafés and boutiques. Old Quarter where the House of the Golden Goose can be found surrounds the Neuer Platz.
