Klagenfurt, the capital of the Austrian federal state Carinthia in the southern part of the country, it is a pleasant and enjoyable city throughout the year with a Mediterranean climate, the sunny winter days, a colorful autumn and a mild spring. Located on the eastern shore of the Lake Wörthersee which is one of Europe’s largest and warmest alpine lakes, it is mentioned as "the Rose of Lake Wörthersee".
The proximity to the border of Slovenia and Italy and the Mediterranean Sea creates a Mediterranean climate in the summer, and bright sunny days in the winter.
Boasting one of Austria’s prettiest old towns, Klagenfurt was awarded the prestigious Europa Nostra Diploma three times for its lovingly restored arcaded Renaissance courtyards accommodating modern boutiques, trendy bars, and rustic beer gardens. Neuer Platz is dominated by the Lindwurm, a winged dragon which is the emblem of the city and was modeled on the dragon of legend.
In the city offering a 800-year-old city history to be explored, there are many museums and galleries of international reputation including the Museum of Modern Art, the Provincial Museum with its Roman findings, the Wappensaal, the Diocesan Museum and the Landhaus Gallery. Not to be missed is to experience the centuries in the city from the castles of the Middle Ages on to fascinating old parts of town from the Renaissance age, and the footsteps of the great poets Ingeborg Bachmann and Robert Musil.
