Villach, on the Drau River, is the second largest city in Carinthia in the south of Austria representing an important traffic junction for Austria and the whole Alpe-Adria region. The population of the city is 58,480 as of December 2006 census.
Villach is situated on west of the Klagenfurt Basin at the assemblage of the Drau and the Gail Rivers. Villach is also skirted by the mountains of the Alps which are great for skiing in winter and hiking in summer.
There are several festivals taking part throughout the year such as the carnival in Villach, the arts and crafts festival, the New Orleans festival, the streets-art festival, the "Villacher Kirchtag", performances on a stage beside the Drau.
Although Villach is located in the middle of picturesque settings, it has no special points of interest for the tourists unless it happens to be the peaceful lakes and green mountain valleys.
