The Bonn Minster Church, "das Bonner Münster" in German, is one of the oldest churches in the middle of the city of Bonn that you can visit in Germany. The rising church was built in a time between 11th and 13th centuries, when it was serving as a cathedral for the Archbishop of Cologne.
Today the Bonn Minster Church is a Papal Basilica. It is one of the cities greatest emblems. The church is still under control of the Collegiate Church of St. Cassius and St. Florentius.
Two Roman soldiers, called Cassius and Florentius, had came to Bonn, called Castra Bonnensia around 230 AD, and were martyred. As a tradition in Roman Empire a small memorial was built over the place where they were burried.
In 7th century this little memorial was converted into a church, which hosted many graves near the martyrs. After than there were more extensions in the following centuries.
Around 1050 the church was destryoed and a new counstruction had been built that had lasted until the 13th century. By the time the city of Bonn had become an important city, which resulted being the capital of Archbishopric of Cologne.
