Bonn
Bonn, the former capital city of Federal Republic of Germany, is just 20 kilometers far away from Cologne. The birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven, Bonn, is now a mid-sized city with a population of 315,000. This is also a very ancient city that used to be a Roman garrison town.
How to go?
The Cologne-Bonn airport is near to the city Bonn, which was mostly used for cargo traffic. But now there have been many air carriers like Germanwings, which will use the Cologne-Bonn Airport. From the airport you can arrive to Bonn by taking the 670 airport bus, which leaves the airport every 30 minutes. An other alternative would be taking a train, which is very often.
Attractions
In Bonn one of the most important things to see is "Das Bonner Münster", which is a very beatiful basilica, in the center of the Bonn. There are also guided tours available arranged by the Bonn Information or the Bonner Münster Foundation. Here you can visit the church from 7:00 to 19:00 and the Cloister from 9:00 to 17:00.
An other good attraction to visit would be the "Kreuzbergkirche" , a former Church now serving as a German language and culture school. It is very famous with "Heiliger Steige" (holy staircase)
In addition to these attractions there are also many museums and galleries for those who are interested in arts. Some of them would be; Beethoven-Haus, August Macke Haus and Kunstmuseum Bonn.
