Dortmund
Dortmund, the city which is well known for it's breweries, is the 7th largest city in Germany with a population over 600,000. Dortmund is located near of the Ruhr River and Emscher River.
According to the oldest documents the city used to be a small village called Throtmanni around years 800 - 900. After the city was destroyed by fire, it was rebuilt by the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, who had settled here about 2 years around 1150. Between the years 1220 and 1802 the city used to be an Imperial Free city. After then it was mostly under the control of Prussia.
How to go?
You can fly to Dortmund using the Dortmund Airport, which is the main airport for some cheap airlines. Then you can use shuttles and busses to go to center of Dortmund. You can also use train to go to the Dortmund Central Station.
What to see?
In Dortmund the Reinoldikirche, which has a 112 meters tower, is one of the top attractions for visitors to see. It is a typical medieval architecture. You may also visit Petrikirche if you enjoy to see ancient churches. The Petrikirche is famous for it's altar known as Golden Miracle of Dortmund.
In Dortmund you may also want to visit green spaces like Westfalenpark and Rombergpark. You may also visit the Florianturm, TW Tower Dortmund, and have a nice lunch in a 140 meters tower. There are also some museums like Westphalian Industrial Museum Zollern Colliery. You should also take a tour with the H-Bahn, which is a hanging railway at Dortmund university.
