Details / Tinos
Only a tiny stretch of water separates Andros form Tinos, a miniature version of its neighbour. Like Andros, Tinos was settled by the Ionians, and then inhabited by Roman, Venetians, and Turks. Its landscape is dotted with the same type of Venetian dovecotes you see on Andros.
Tinos town lacks the wealth of Andros town and is more typical of a Cycladic island capital, wit a busy little port and narrow streets zigzagging among blindingly whitewashed buildings. Its Archaeological Museum is surprisingly interesting. The island’s principal site is the remains of the fourth century BC Sanctuary of Poseidon and Amphitrite, 4 kilometres northwest of town.
