Vravrona is located at the foot of a small hill rather than on top of one. On the crown of the hill is a pretty little Byzantine chapel dedicated to St. George. The village and site are in a marshy valley surrounded by agricultural land. It is an attractive area with abundant wildlife. The people are welcoming, as they are not yet overrun by visitors.
Excavations uncovered the remains of a temple from the 5th century BC. Located next to the temple is a stoa, which may be even older. Inscriptions discovered within the structure describe it as “the Parthenon of the Bears”. Other finds made here, such as stone couches, indicate that some of the rooms in the building were utilized as dining rooms and dormitories.
