Details / Osiou Louka
The monastery of Osiou Louka stands alone in an olive-filled valley surrounded by mountains, just a few miles down a side road off the Athens-Delphi road. The saint to whom it is dedicated was a Greek hermit, not the more famous Gospel writer.
The chapels here are among the best examples of Byzantine architecture in Greece, and contain some of the finest preserved frescoes in the county. Despite its isolated position, Osiou Louka is usually busy, not just because of the frescoes or reverence for St. Luke, but because it makes a convenient second stop on one day trips from Athens to Delphi.
