Details / Iraklio Historical Museum
Smaller than the Archaeological Museum, it nevertheless gives a good picture of Cretan life through the ages. There are examples of art from the Venetian period, as well as and interesting collection of Byzantine art.
The Historic Museum tells the full story of the suffering of bloody Battle of Crete on the island in sometimes shocking detail, illustrated with photos from the period. Another glimpse of Cretan life is given in a reconstructed study of Nikos Kazantzakis, indicating the esteem in which he is held on his native island.
The museum of Natural History has displays on the flora and fauna not only of Crete but of the whole Aegean.
