Details / Peloponnese
![]() |
Many visitors choose to return again and again to the massive peninsula of the Peloponnese, and it is an area with enough variety to invite weeks or even months of exploration. The landscape is impressively wooded and mountainous, and around its edges are wonderful beaches, as fine as any on the Greek islands.
It has some of the most important archaeological sites in the world. There are also cosmopolitan old towns such as the former Greek capital, Nafplio, as well as unspoiled mountain villages where you might be the only visitor.
Historians will never want to leave. Aside from the famous sites, there are lesser known but equally exciting treasures to discover, such as the Byzantine ruins of Mystras, and the rock at Monemvasia, which has an entire village hidden form the mainland.
