Details / Tiryns
Homer described Tiryns as having might walls, and these are still the first thing you really notice in the town. The remains of the walls are 700 metres in length, up to 8 metres wide and 10 metres high, although they originally stood twice this high.
The site is mush better preserved than Mycenae but lacks the resonance of the royal tombs and because of this has not been as well excavated or cared for. Some parts are off-limits to visitors, as much to protect people form accidents as to protect the remains from damage.
Little remains of the royal palace, aside from foundations. However, with a floor plan, available from stores in modern Mycenae, it is possible to make out sections such as the royal apartments.
