Gyor Cathedral, where the Káptalan Domb is home to, is a beautiful basilica. The cathedral boasts foundations from the 11th century and architecture that is a slight confused mixture of different styles, including a mixture of Gothic, Neo-classical and Romanesque elements.

Inside the cathedral, there are the main attractions to be discovered such as the bishop's throne, an elaborate altarpiece and frescoes created by Austrian painter, Franz Anton Maulbertsch (1724 - 1796). The Gothic-style Héderváry Chapel is home to one of the most valuable and magnificent examples of gold work from medieval times in the whole of Hungary.

There is the famous Weeping Icon of Mary that has become a major pilgrimage spot ever since it began to cry tears of blood in the late 17th century. The Diocesan Treasure and Library and the Ark of the Convent are other attractions close by and around the Káptalan Domb.

The cathedral is open daily – 24 hours and admission is free.
