Details / Isole Eolie
![]() |
Sicily has numerous ravishing offshore islands but none are as spectacular as the Isole Eolie, the legendary home of Vulcan and Aeolus. The seven islets are the remnants of volcanoes both active and extinct, and visitors come to witness volcanic activity in the raw, and to enjoy the islands’ peace and quiet, varied landscapes, and aquamarine seas.
Hiking and snorkelling are major attractions throughout the Eolie Islands, as are distinctive food, hot pools and volcanic mud baths, fabulous marine and coastal landscapes, and the more intangible pleasures of small-town life and the islands’ relaxed atmosphere.
The big three – Stromboli, Vulcano, and Lipari – are extremely popular, so you need to reserve accommodation in advance, at least during July and August. Outside these months, and other peak periods such as Easter, you should have few problems.
