Amsterdam, one of the most colorful cities of the world, is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands. The city is located in the province North Holland. It is popular with unique architecture, lovely canals, good shopping chocies and people who nearly all speak English well.

The name of Amsdertam means a dam on the river Amstel which flows into the city from the south. The city is very important for the world, because traditionally, Amsterdam is a trading city. Philips, Shell and ING -three of the top 500 companies of the world- are based on the city. So, the city is alsa financial and cultural capital of the Netherlands.

Amsterdam is also one of the important and impressive tourism capitals of the world. The city has 37 museums which offer up very important pemanent collections and temprory exhibitions. Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Stadelijk are the largest and most renowned ones. In addition to these, photography and multimedia exhibitions have been laying out, in the recent years. Moreover, Singel, the Herengtacht, Keizersgracht, the Prinsengracht and Singelgracht are the popular historical canals of the city.

The other thing about the city is, many tourists visit the city because of its reputation for tolerance like legal prostitution, drug and homosexuality. In contrast, visitors to the Netherlands will not be allowed to light up a cigarette or a cigar in a hotel, restaurant, cafe, snack bar or any other establishment, though there are exceptions.
