Friesland
Friesland is also one of twelve province of the Netherlands. It is located in the northern part of the country with approximately 600,000 inhabitants distributed over 31 municipalities. Each municipality has its own administrative body, the Municipal Council, elected by its inhabitants. In addition to the 31 Municipal Administrations, Friesland also has a Provincial Administration, which has its seat in the Province Hall in Leeuwarden. Leeuwarden is the capital of the city. Sneek, Ijlst, Sloten, Stoveren, Hindeloopen, Workum, Bolsward, Harlingen, Franeker and Dokkum are the other cities of the province.
The province is different from the other eleven provinces with its own language. It is hard for the other Dutch to even understand it. The Frisian language is the second official language of the local administration. The Frisians are very proud with this. Moreover, many people speak English, German and French as well.
Friesland is one of the most remarkable provinces. A large part of Friesland continues to be formed by the sea. There are enormous diversity in culture, history and landscapes, and it is popular with its sea and lakes. Sailing-boating, swimming, sunbathing, walking and fishing are entertaining common activies in Friesland.
