Limburg
Limburg, which is one of twelve province of Netherlands is located in southern part of the country. The province is bordered by Belgium, Germany, North Brabant, and Gelderland. Three of these, Netherlands, Belgium and Germany are called as "Three Countriespoint". The capital of the province is Maastricht. The province has 1.13 million inhabitants namely, 7% of total Dutch population. The province takes its name from the castle "Limbourg" that is located in the small river Vesdrein the Ardennes. Limburg has its own language that is Limburgish.
Chemicals, the automotive industry and office equipment are main industrial sectors of Limburg. Limburg and the neighbouring part of the province of Brabant account for half of all Dutch research and development. Limburg is one of Western Europe's care economic areas. Within a 300 kilometre radius, it has a potential market of more than 100 million consumers and 200,000 companies in no fewer than five countries. More than 70% of the Netherlands' international freight traffic passes through Limburg.
Festivals and folkloric events are significant values for the province. The most famous are the World Music Competitiön in Kerkrade, the Intemational Folklore Festival in Brunssum.The province has a wealth of museums, the most famous being the new Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, the Provincial Museum of Fine Art and Archaeology. The Limburg Museum in Venlo has a general collection of art and cultural objects.
