Kingdom of Norway is a constitutional monarchy in Northern Europe that occupies the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula. It borders Russia, Sweden, and Finland. The country's coastline is home to famous fjords. The territories of Bouvet Island, Queen Maud Land, and Peter I Island are dependencies, but not parts of Norway.
Norway was the first European country to declare independence in the 20th century. After Second World War the country has experienced rapid economic growth. Norway is amongst the wealthiest countries in the world. Norway is the world's third largest oil exporter after Saudi Arabia and Russia. The petroleum industry is vital for the economy and it accounts for around a quarter of GDP. Even though the oil reserves are mainly situated outside they are controlled from the oil city of Stavanger.
Besides oil reserves, Norway has also rich resources of hydropower, gas fields, forests, minerals and fish. Norway is also the second largest exporter of seafood, including clip fish, herring, salmon, pelagic fish, and ground fish fillet. Other industries include shipbuilding food processing, mining, metals, fishing, pulp and paper products, and chemicals.
