Details / Plaza de Colon

The neo-Gothic column crowned by a figure of Columbus, designed in the late nineteenth century, is set to move form the sidelines to its original location in the middle of the crossroads. On the right, the Centro Cultural de la Villa is also getting a facelift. This theatre and exhibition venue has been hidden below ground, but it will now have a more obvious entrance on the Jardines del Descubrimiento.
The large landscaped area commemorates Columbus with three large blocks that represent his ships, each featuring inscriptions and reliefs relating to his voyages. The airport bus terminal is located under the square.
