Details / Templo de Debod
![]() |
Dedicated to Amun and Isis, the temple contains a series of chapels, the most interesting of which is dedicated to King Adikhalamani. An audio-visual exhibit recreates the visit of French archaeologist Jean Francois Champollion in 1829 to decipher its inscriptions.
The red granite inner chamber was built by Ptolemy XII in 80-51 BC and was the most sacred place in the temple. Amun was believed to live there, and only priests were allowed to enter. Upstairs, a model shows the location of Abu Simbel and other temples.
