In 1962, the idea was mooted to turn Kolmarden’s forest into a recreational area and zoo. There years later the park opened, but this is no ordinary zoo. The animal enclosures are large and attractively landscaped.

There is a drive-though Safari Park which brigs visitors close to the creatures of he savannah that live here alongside Nordic species such as brown bears and wolves.

A Dolpinarium offers spectacular shows with trained dolphins. Snakes and crocodiles inhabit the outdoor Tropicarium, while the Aparium is designed so that the apes can be viewed indors and out. There is a cable-car ride around the park providing a bird’s eye view of the grounds.
