Details / Valla Canyon
Considered to be the most dangerous passage to cross in Turkey, Valla is one of several canyons that slice into the Kure Mountains in the western Black Sea region of Turkey. It is situated in the Kure Daglari National Park – which covers 50,000 acres – and represents the largest and most intact humid karst area in the region.
The canyon starts where the Devrekani and Kanlicay Rivers meet, and then continues for 12 kilometers toward Cide. The entrance is difficult to negotiate, and a guide and the right equipment are needed in order to explore the canyon safely.
Valla Canyon is a wild and lonely place. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife including brown bear, roe deer, wild boar, and fox, although numbers have been greatly reduced by hunting; and many birds of prey can be seen soaring above the high canyon walls, that rise up 800 to 1200 meters.
