As tempting as they are, do not rush to the hot springs pools at the end of the road right away; you will want to enjoy narrow, winding, and scenic Miette Hot Springs Road. About halfway to the pools, pull over at Ashlar Ridge Viewpoint to behold the 1,000-foot limestone cliff that juts up amid the mountains of the front range.
Visitors frequently spot black bears along this road; if you see one, watch but do not feed. Not only could you get hurt, but bears that develop a taste for human food become problem bears and frequently must be killed.
When you arrive at the hot springs, you also have arrived at the trailheads for two fine hikes: Sulphur Pass by way of the Fiddle River Trail and Sulphur Skyline Trail. The path to Sulphur Pass takes you through the ruins of the old pool building, where interpretive signs explain how the hot springs work, and on up to wildflower meadows and long views.
