Details / Oak Hammock Marsh
The fact that Ducks Unlimited Canada has its national headquarters at Oak Hammock Marsh should clue you in on what to expect. This vast wetland area 32 kilometres north of Winnipeg is one of he finest places in North America in which to view migrating waterfowl. During the spring and fall, some half a million assorted ducks and geese stop here to feed and nest.
As you stroll song the dikes that vein the marsh, you sometimes must shout to your companions to make yourself heard over the cacophony of feeding and nesting ducks and geese. Boardwalks and viewing mounds provide additional vantage points from which to watch the unfolding social scene.
You may also see avocets, grebes, phalaropes, snowy owls, and others of the more than 280 bird species that have been sighted here.
