Between the headwaters of Saint John River’s several branches in the wooded wildernesses of Maine and Quebec and its mouth on the Bay of Fundy, the river drains a basin of some 25,000 square miles, passing through some of he most attractive and agriculturally rich countryside in New Brunswick. This driving route covers about 175 miles, following Trans-Canada 2 and linking Edmundston, near the Quebec border, with Fredericton.
The Bay of Fundy is a remarkable body of tidal water. Nothing else quite like it exists in the marine world. Some of the world’s highest tides have been recorded here. Their height is caused by the bay’s funnel shape. These impressive tides carry about 100 billion tons of water in and out of the bay every day, providing a magnificent display in the process.
