Details / Baccalieu Trail
![]() |
The Glorious coastal Baccalieu Trail hugs the coastline of the Bay de Verde Peninsula. This scenic drive rises and falls along formidable cliffs and promontories, skirts coves and inlets, and passes rocky beaches. It strings together picturesque small fishing communities, sites of historic interest, and the Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve.
Tour boats leave from Bay de Verde to ply the waters around the reserve. Baccalieu Island rises sheer out of the Atlantic, its steep cliffs 328 to 980 feet tall. Heath, grassy turf, and stunted old-growth black spruce and balsam fir cover the island, whose only inhabitants are birds and foxes.
