Details / Terra Nova National Park
![]() |
The last ice age sculpted the rugged, forested Oceanside landscape of Terra Nova National Park. Located on Bonavista Bay, its idyllic shoreline attracts kayakers and canoeists. Hikers are drawn to the dense forests of black spruce, balsam fir, mountain ash, poplar, and white birch that blanket the rolling hills of the interior.
Newman Sound
Located in the park’s north, the Newman Sound estuary teems with wildlife. Birders and hikers alike will delight in this area. Just north of the Newman Sound campground, the Newman Sound Bird Exhibit details the estuarine web of life. Black ducks, greater yellowlegs, bald eagles, ospreys, and other birds feed off the rich marine life in the shallow waters.
