Details / Viking Trail
Just 12.4 miles north of Gros Morne National Park on the Viking Trail lie the interesting arches of The Arches Provincial Park. A millennia of pounding surf initially carved underwater sea caves; the dolomite rock was later raised above sea level in a geologic uplift and the caves became arches.
Back on the Viking Trail, drive 25 miles to the tiny Table Point Ecological Reserve, just north of the community of Bellburns. This coastal reserve protects one of the best known deposits of fossils from the Middle Ordovician period. The fossils, which include specimens of nine different marine animal groups, are well preserved in the limestone.
