Details / The Cabot Trail
The Cabot Trail is a perimeter route around Cape Breton Highlands National Park that is often hailed as one of the most scenic drives in North America.
Although Cabot Trail measures 144 miles in its entirety, the middle portion that arcs through the park is only 65 miles long. It can be cycled in a day. Experienced travelers make at least one overnight stay.
The Cabot Trail descends sharply into the valley of the Grand Anse, meandering along the river lined with 300-year-old hardwood forests to Pleasant Bay on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. From there south of there are dozens of startling gulf vistas, punctuated by steep headlands, 1,000-foot cliffs, and storm-lashed coves.
