Details / Auyuittuq National Park
The park contains some of the most magnificent scenery in the north: crashing ice, precipitous fjords, glacier-sculpted mountain valleys, knife-edged peaks, and the massive Penny Ice Cap, a looming relic of the last ice age.
The highlights of the local landscape are the handiwork of passing glaciers, which dropped large, angular boulders that show little of the roundness of water-tumbled stones.
Fork Beard Glacier, accessible to hikers, is studded with massive boulders that can be clearly seen from the trail. Watch long enough and you will see and hear a virtual rain of debris tumbling down the glacier’s vertical face.
