Details / Kettle Lakes Provincial Park
Kettle Lakes Provincial Park is known for its abundance of wildflowers and lesser plants, which means you can visit the park in May, July and September and see completely different species in bloom. Forest-dwelling species include lichens and wintergreen, while the lighter shade under aspen and birch trees allow s the growth of honeysuckle, devil’s paintbrush, clintonia and sarsaparilla. Spruce and tamarack bogs support leatherleaf, Labrador tea, sphagnum moss and pitcher plant.
The park has several wetlands, including a floating bog, within its boundaries, and two no-kettle lakes. Unlike the steep-sided and rocky or sandy kettles, these natural lakes have plenty of aquatic vegetation along their shores that provides habitat for fish and forage for moose.
Kettle Lakes Provincial Park is perfectly located to take advantage of the interesting tourist attractions of Timmins. The best of these is the Timmins Gold Mine Tour. Experienced miners lead groups of tourists underground about 150 feet where demonstrations and discussions portray life underground during past decades.
