Details / Northumberland Provincial Park
Head east after driving off the ferry that carried you across Northumberland Strait to Prince Edward Island from Caribou, Nova Scotia, and within a few short miles you will discover a park that is deservedly popular with families. They are drawn to Northumberland Provincial Park by its safe, supervised beach and by its warm ocean water. Armed with small shovels and pails, dozens of family groups can be seen working their way along the shoreline in summer, digging up fresh clams for that night’s dinner.
An interpretive nature trail meanders one mile through a mix of forests and meadows that display the flora and fauna native to PIE. A spectrum of shorebirds and waterfowl will have birders scrambling for their life lists.
At the ferry docks, another small picnic park, Wood Island, offers a beach, changing facilities, a playground, and rest rooms for campers.
