Details / Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area
Embracing the north shore of the St. Lawrence River 31 miles east Quebec is Cap Tourmente, a strikingly beautiful confluence of river, mountain, and coastal marsh. The area was originally protected by private hunting clubs from Quebec that were determined to keep anything from threatening the marshland habitat and their quarry.
More than 10 miles of trails and boardwalks have been provided throughout the important viewing areas of the park. One of the best vantage points, 1,968 foot high Cap Tourmente itself, overlooks a vast tidal marsh, where birds feed along more than 6 miles of muddy shoreline.
More than 290 bird species live in the area, including peregrine falcons, a fairly recent arrival.
