Details / Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve
Mingan draws a loyal clutch of visitors who return year after year to immerse themselves in a nature experience that is hard to duplicate elsewhere. The archipelago’s extraordinary landscape is wild and unspoiled, yet the islands lie only 1 to2 miles from certain mainland towns.
Summer twilights can be mesmerizing. Minke whales blow offshore, sometimes close enough to hit you with their spray, while gray and harbour seals bark hoarsely from the rocks.
The capelin-rich waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence attract many species of seabirds, among them the Atlantic puffin. The cold waters and the upwelling of they cause along the shore create the nutrient rich environment responsible for breeding plankton and capelin, which attract many of the whales found throughout the archipelago.
