Details / Allan Gardens
Featuring six greenhouses that cover almost 1,500 square feet, Allan Gardens has been a horticultural destination in Toronto since 1860. The land was donated to the city by George William Allan, a Toronto cultural and political leader of the time, with the proviso that the property’s use always be acceptable to the Toronto Horticultural Society.
Most prominent in the complex is the glass-domed Palm House, and the five additional greenhouses each feature flora from distinct climates: the Arid House, the Tropical Landscape House, the Cool Temperature House, and Tropical Houses. An additional greenhouse is being relocated to Allan Gardens from its current location at the University of Toronto.
