Details / Amherstburg
This is a charming village on the Detroit River which is being carefully restored and rejuvenated, making it likely to become a busy summer spot in the next few years.
Even now, it is well worth a weekend trip. Amherstburg is one of the oldest communities in Canada, dating back to 1796. The village is filled with dozens of old-time houses. If you are a architecture buff, pick up a walking tour map of ‘Amherstburg from any area tourist centre and stroll the street.
The focus of the village is the Fort Malden National Historic Park, and it is from here that you can enjoy an excellent view of the river where boats go by all day.
