Details / Fort Malden National Historic Park
This immaculate park and museum exhibit is one of the favourite attractions in this corner of the province. It features a series of buildings set on the site of the original earthworks of Fort Malden. The fort was the British military post that defended the Detroit River from 1796-1858. When war broke out in 1812, this area became one of the first to see action.
The buildings include the soldiers’’ brick barracks, with uniforms and equipment arranged as they would have been at the turn of the century; a pensioner’s cottage; and a handsomely appointed museum and visitor information centre.
Musket firings and sleigh rides are just a couple of examples of the special events the park offers at various times throughout the year.
