Details / Jack Miners Bird Sanctuary
You will find the sanctuary just north of Kingsville, simply follow the sings. The 810 hectare conservation land is now run by Jack Miner’s sons, Jasper and Manly, and is still dedicated to its founder’s pledge – to provide a sanctuary for the conservation of migrating Canada geese and ducks.
It is now a resting-place and watering hole for the thousands of migratory birds that arrive here every spring and fall. A testament to its popularity is the fact that in 1952 it was rated the second greatest tourist attraction in Ontario next to Niagara Falls.
Try to visit the sanctuary in the last 10 days of October or the last 20 days of March because this is when the largest flocks of birds fly over. The best time of day to visit then is from 3 pm to dark, when the late afternoon and evening flights are silhouetted against the darkening sky.
