Details / Bahia Salinas
Several fine beaches line this flask-shaped bay, including the sugar white Playa Pochotes which is backed by glistening salt pans picked upon by wading birds, and mangroves where crocodiles lurk.
The bay is enfolded to he south by Punta Descartes, which opens to the northwest and garners winds off the open sea making it a nirvana for windsurfers, who are served by the Eco-Wind Surf Centre and Kite Surf Centre. A few rustic fishing hamlets remain, tethered to a hard life at sea. A craggy isle covered with drought-resistant shrubs studs the bay.
The island is a protected nesting site for frigates birds, American oystercatchers, brown pelicans, and boobies. The island is off-limits to visitors.
