This crown jewel of rain forest biology forms a mini-Amazon whose appeals are worth the discomforts of sodden humidity and rains. In the tropics, water spells life. From crocodiles in the marshy wetlands to sleek jaguars on the prowl, Corcovado has earned a reputation for some of the nation’s best wildlife viewing.
This lush ecological Eden boasts wildlife in astonishing abundance. Around one-tenth of all mammal species in the Americas live in the park. You can certain to see howler and capuchin monkeys, and possibly even endangered squirrel monkeys.
Corcovado’s forests vibrate with the squawking and chirrup of countless birds. Of the more than 400 bird species, 20 are endemic – only found here. There are in excess of 115 reptile species, including poison-arrow frogs that hop about the jungle floor like enamelled porcelain figurines.
