Details / Trinidad
![]() |
One of the original seven villas of Cuba, Trinidad is on the south coast. During the 18th and 19th centuries, wealth from the nearby sugar plantations made it the finest colonial city in Cuba. Much of the old city has changed very little over the past 150 years.
At the heart of the old city lies a small square dotted with palm trees. Cobblestone streets lined with brightly coloured houses run from the main square. In the centre of the square is a statue of Jose Marti guarded by two bronze sculptures of greyhounds. Fine mansions once occupied by Trinidad’s wealthiest, families line the square. Today, the mansions are museums, complete with furniture, paintings and family possessions of the period.
