Details / Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic has the size of about 49,000 square kilometres. Located just south of the Tropic of Capricorn, it is bordered on the north by the Atlantic Ocean, on the south by the Caribbean Sea, and on the east by the Mona Passage, which separates the island from Puerto Rico.
The Dominican Republic’s varied terrain features both the highest and the lowest points in the Caribbean. Mountain ranges cover nearly three-fifths of the nation, making it one of the most mountainous lands in the West Indies.
Coffee is the area’s major crop, although tobacco, fruit, beans rice, corn tomatoes, and eggplant also grow here. Some coffee and sugarcane are exported. The country is home to a wide variety of plants. The most common plant is sugarcane, but vegetation also includes grasses, small shrubs, and scrubby trees. Dense forests of pine and broadleaf evergreen are found in areas where rainfall is heavy.
